Regular Board Meeting Minutes

Tuesday, April 7, 2026

Board members present: Supervisors Kyle Vareberg and Mike Hough (via TEAMS)


Board members absent: Supervisor Brett Friesen

The meeting was called to order at 6:33 p.m. by Supervisor Vareberg.


After reviewing the agenda as presented, a motion was made by Supervisor Vareberg, seconded by Supervisor Hough and carried, without a dissenting vote, to approve the agenda with no additions.


The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.


After reviewing the minutes of the March 4, 2026 regular board meeting and Board of Audit minutes, a motion was made by Supervisor Vareberg and seconded by Supervisor Hough and carried, without a dissenting vote, to approve the minutes as written with no additions or corrections.


Clerk Renner gave two treasurer’s reports ending March 31, 2026. The first from Old National Bank with an ending balance in the checking account of $163,077.23.  The second from Midwest Bank with an ending balance in the checking account of $142.498.64 and an ending balance in the money market account of $200,447.12 for a total of $342,945.76. Total funds for Erie Township on March 31, 2026 are $507,022.99. A motion was made by Supervisor Vareberg and seconded by Supervisor Hough and carried, without a dissenting vote, to approve both the Old National Bank and Midwest Bank reports.


The Board reviewed the expense and payroll claims for March 2026 as presented to them by Clerk Renner.  A motion was made by Supervisor Vareberg and seconded by Supervisor Hough and carried, without a dissenting vote, to approve payment of all claims, payroll claims in the amount of $4,115.13 and expense claims in the amount of $35,792.60 for a total of $39,907.73.

Detroit Mountain Recreation Area submitted their liquor license renewal form to the clerk. A motion was made by Supervisor Vareberg and seconded by Supervisor Hough and carried, without a dissenting vote, to approve the liquor license. The form was signed by Supervisor Vareberg and Clerk Renner.

Road Report: 


A motion was made by Supervisor Vareberg, seconded by Supervisor Hough and carried, without a dissenting vote, to set the Road Tour for April 24, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. at Town Hall.

New Business:


The ARPA final reporting has been submitted to the US Treasury. We are awaiting the final report for close-out.


A motion was made by Supervisor Vareberg, seconded by Supervisor Hough and carried, without a dissenting vote, to approve Ms. Joann Splonskowski’s request to understand where the ARPA monies were spent.

Quotes are in the newspaper, in the bulletin board outside the Town Hall and on the website.


Reminder that the Becker County Association of Township will hold their meeting Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. at the Becker County Courthouse.


Reminder of the Local Board of Appeals and Equalization to be held Tuesday, April 14, 2026 in the Erie Town Hall at 9:00 a.m.


A motion was made by Supervisor Vareberg, seconded by Supervisor Hough and carried, without a dissenting vote, to table the Reorganizational meeting until the May 5, 2026 regular meeting.


A motion was made by Supervisor Vareberg, seconded by Supervisor Hough and carried, without a dissenting vote, to pay the current Clerk the salaries of both Clerk and Treasurer for completing those duties until a Treasurer is appointed.


There was discussion on the transmission line that has been proposed in our area. Our advice would be to have the residents to call or email the MN Public Utilities Commission, since this is their jurisdiction.


There being no further business, the meeting was recessed at 7:22 p.m.


On Friday, April 24, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. the township meeting reconvened with Supervisor Hough, Dale Renner and Dan Gustner completing the road tour. The roads that will receive gravel in 2026 are NE Pickerel Lake Drive; W Pickerel Lake Road; Klein Road; SW Pickerel Lake Road; Schram Road; 205th Street; Thorson Lane; SE Perch Lake Road; south part of 330th Avenue; 344th Avenue and build a turn-around at the east end of 170th Street to make road maintenance easier. Gravelle Lane will receive a few loads of crushed bituminous.


There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 11:30 a.m.
